We listed our home for rent this week. We have lived here for 18 and a half years. We have raised our three daughters here. The home looks nothing like it did when we bought it. I want to attempt to document the transformations that have happened, not only to this home, but to our lives while we have been here.
The primary bedroom: we wanted it to feel calm and peaceful. With the stresses of everyday life, it feels like a luxury to have a place to end the day with calm and serenity. To create this, we kept the colors neutral and soft. We also added texture with materials like wood (headboard, floor and night stands), rattan (nightstands), and textured throw pillows. We kept the decor very minimal, even on the walls.

pain pointS
space: We had a three panel sliding door closet and two dressers in this room. Danny is 6’4″ so we made sure to have a king bed fit in here too. In our remodel that we finished in the fall of 2022, we took our closet and dressers out of this room.
window coverings: We have an odd corner window and window seat situation. We found a corner window rod from Pottery Barn that allowed us to hang curtains which can hide some of the awkwardness of this area.
furniture: When we bought the home we initially purchased a large king sleigh bed frame with two dressers. The bed frame and both a head and foot board. We only bought one night stand because two wouldn’t fit. Later, we ditched the bed frame and swapped out the hardware on the dressers to modernize it a bit. With this remodel, we were able to add two nightstands and remove the dressers, our clothes were relocated into a new closet that we will show you soon.
If $ were no object, we would have removed the shutters replacing them with shades (which could solve the awkward length of the side windows) and bought custom drapes.

I love white bedding! Especially white sheets. I also love two pillows stacked. We sleep on the lower pillow with the pillow case and the top stacked pillow has a sham that matches the linen white duvet. I like to place a lumbar pillow or two in front of the stacked sleeping pillows. This shows a body pillow behind a smaller lumbar.
When we first moved in we had a heavy sleigh bed frame that matched the dressers. When we removed the dressers we were able to switch up the bedframe. We found the platform of the frame second-hand but wanted a headboard to frame the space. (linked below)
We remodeled and redecorated this space while we were remodeling the main floor (kitchen, dining, office, etc…). Because of that, I really worked to find pieces and decor on a a budget. We kept the rug and the side chair, we changed most everything else.

BEDDING: Cozy Earth white sheets (these are HEAVEN and just get better and better as you wash them! I don’t think I’ll ever sleep on anything else), Casa Luna duvet cover and shams, Casa Luna body pillow and sham, Purple pillows (Danny and I haven’t always agreed on pillows, but these are cool, keep the perfect height and we both LOVE them!), World Market throw pillow
BENCH and CHAIR: Homegoods
NIGHTSTANDS: Target with Studio McGee
HEADBOARD: Wayfair, Murchison Solid Wood Headboard
LAMPS: Target, Montreal Wren by Threshold
MIRROR: Target, this particular mirror in walnut isn’t currently on their site, but this is it in black
CLOCK: Pottery Barn, Anton Desktop clock (medium) I LOVE the character of this clock. It is analog but I can’t hear it. It is heavy and the finish on the metal is great. The only downside is that you can’t see the time at night.
CURTAIN: rod from Pottery Barn. I chose this because it has a corner option. We have a corner window. I am on my third set of curtains in here and really don’t love them so I am not going to link them.
I’ll post the closet transformation next!
